Tri-Angle CD Review

VOL. 1 Tri-Angle [no, I do not know why they couldn't spell it Triangle]
Released: October 13, 2004
Korea top 200 position: #1
302,493 copies (still charting)
Singles: Hug [January 14, 2004] • The Way U Are [June 24, 2004]
PV's: Tri-Angle, Hug, My Little Princess (original and a cappella), The Way U Are, Miduhyo (2 versions), Thanks To, Whatever They Say (AC)

Tri-Angle is DBSK's first album!
Still undecided on how much I like it though...since over half the songs were good but not great, this CD was SO hard to review. I started with a 10-point rating system but I had to switch to 5 points. All said in-between songs (I like but not love) got a 3.5. lol. I now have an abbreviation for such songs, cos writing their reviews (and, I imagine, reading!) got tiring: GBNG

It's also worth noting that, image-wise, Tri-Angle/The Way U Are was one of the darkest periods in DBSK history *cue gloomy music.* Yes, it was a sad sad time. Everyone looked bad in The Way U Are, even Jaejoong with the lion hair. With the exception of Jaejoong, everyone also looked quite frightening in Tri-Angle, esp. Yunho and Yoochun.

CD Review (* indicates recommended!):

1. 믿어요 (Miduhyo) ~ Believe *
With the exception of the English intro, I really like this song. This is one of my DBSK favorites. I suck at categorizing, it's a slower song but not boring, idk if it's a ballad? Either way, thumbs up!
Rating: 4/5. Watch

[damnnn I love Kyuhyun, check out his cover w/ some other guy whose voice is NOT GOOD ENOUGH to cover DBSK. seriously, the other guy looks so confused, and he keeps nodding and looking retarded...wtf. kyukyu should just do it alone next time >_<]

2. Thanks To
GBNG ... ballad? The engrish chorus is a bit irksome though ("I know you were waiting for me, so I thank you for all the love inside you" mmmkay).
Rating: 3.5/5. Watch

3. Tri-Angle (Extended version, feat. BoA and The TRAX) **
One of my fave DBSK songs! esp b/c I watched the video OVER and OVER when I first got into DBSK.
The song is really good, and highlights all of their vocals really well. It has Mozart's 40th Symphony in it, which is an excellent touch (S.H.E copies that later >_<). BoA's part is awesome, as well.
My only quibble with the song, and it's a big one, is The TRAX's part. I HATE it with a passion. Unlike their other songs where a rappy part or odd engrish might bother me, I can still listen through the rap/engrish, but I CANNOT listen through the TRAX's part, it's torturous. They're all screamy and hardcore heavy rock-y, and it SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS. Rant over.

4. 내 여자친구가 되어줄래? (Will you be my girlfriend?)
Essentially the same comments as Thanks To (GBNG, with ridiculous engrish), although I like it better.
Rating: 3.5/5. Youtube

[this is an...interesting video featuring all the couplings...]

5. Whatever They Say (Acapella)
This is a nice ballad, and their vocals are great.
Rating: 3.5/5. Watch

6. Million Men
I really don't like this one. Not much to say, it's just not my kinda song. Su sounds smex in it though.
Rating: 2.5/5. Youtube

7. 지금처럼 (Jigom Chorum) ~ Like now
GBNG ballad-y song, mercifully free of engrish.
Rating: 3.5/5. Youtube

8. I Never Let Go
Another GBNG ballad-y song. With some engrish.
Rating: 3.5/5. Youtube

9. 꼬마야 (Komaya) ~ Hey, Kid *
I don't really know why I love this song so much, but I do. It's so great. I HEART.
I don't hear about it much though. So I guess it's just me lol.
Rating: 4/5. Youtube

10. 넌 언제나 (Non onjena) ~ You always
OK, after the 30 second intro of "Be my girl" I'm all ready to be your girl and to hear the fricking song already!!! But the song is...GBNG. lol
Rating: 3.5/5. Youtube

11. Hug **
This is bubblegum pop at its best. I love this song so much. It's such cute and happy awesomeness. It's kind of embarassing to admit how much I heart this song, since it's so stupid, but I do.
Rating: 4.5/5. Watch

12. My Little Princess
Again, GBNG, with engrish >_<
Rating: 3.5/5. Watch

13. The Way U Are **
I really, really love this song, I am not sure why. I think this one is supposed to be R&B-ish? idk, but this is one of my DBSK faves.
Rating: 4/5. Watch

14. Tri-Angle (DBSK Version)
This version is pretty much worthless, because it lacks BoA's awesome part, but retains the Trax's shinki-awful screamfest (now sung by DBSK, apparently? *barf* I can't tell the difference, really...why'd they even need Trax in the first place, then?).
It does not even get a rating.

CD Rating: 3.654
